Geraldo discusses his 1988 "Manson Interview"
on "The O'Reilly Factor"  tv program

If Only Geraldo Rivera Wore A Hoodie To His Charles Manson Interview!
Posted by Ellen - April 07, 2012

Geraldo Rivera visited The O’Reilly Factor last night to reminisce about an interview he did with Charles Manson in 1988. Apparently, Rivera didn’t wear a hoodie to the interview. Can there be any doubt that that’s why Manson threatened to send Rivera’s head to his wife “in a basket?” But have no fear. Hoodie or not, Rivera said he threatened to have Manson set on fire. And then boasted about it on The Factor last night.

The pretext for the walk down Manson Memory Lane was the fact that he’s up for parole – even though nobody, including Manson, thinks he’ll get it. But that was enough of an excuse to replay parts of Rivera’s old interview and then beat his chest about Manson.

After Rivera announced he wished Manson had been executed, he relayed the “funny thing” that happened when Manson said that if he didn’t like how the interview turned out, he’d have Rivera’s “head handed to your wife in a basket.”

But, Rivera, assured the Factor viewers, he gave as good as he got. Rivera told us he said, “’Charlie, If anything happens to me, I’m going to have the Mexicans in here, light you on fire again.’ Because he had joined the Aryan Nations and some Mexican guys took some lighter fluid and a Zippo lighter and sprayed him and burned him. So I threatened him right back!”  Classy!

Oooh that Charlie.

He's the clown that makes the dark side fun. HA HA.

In Charlie's 1997 parole hearing, he said @ 3:55 "I'm not saying that I wasn't involved, I'm saying that I did not break man's law, nor did I break God's law. Consider that in the judgements that you have for yourselves. A Good day."

Id est (Latin for i.e., which mean in other words), by saying "I'm not saying that I wasn't involved", means that "he's saying he WAS involved".

By thine own words though hast judged thyself.

Quoth the Raven...nevermore.

Geraldo doesn't really take Charlie seriously. I remember Geraldo telling Charlie that it would take six Charlies to kick his ass. There are a lot of people who didn't take Charlie seriously. Shorty Shea didn't take Charlie seriously because Shorty was over a foot taller than Charlie. Shorty could have beaten the crap out of Geraldo with one hand. Charlie was the type of guy who would send a bunch of female Sunday school teachers after you and having you sliced up and shot full of holes. Geraldo was a boxer so he thinks he can punch his way out of a fight. Hell, Leno Labianca could have beat the crap out of Geraldo. When Geraldo was talking smack to Charlie there were several big guards in the room with Geraldo.

Oops...I meant to say "thou" instead of "though". LOL.

Sorry to hear about Mike Wallace.

onnsGeraldo is the man! I remember him as a Vietnam war correspondent embedded with soldiers and reporting as bullets ripped past his head. He had no fear.

e is even worse than Maury Povich.
Does anyone remember that horible Manson Family reunion show that he did. the only real former member he had on was TJ.....And who the hell was that douche wearing the mask calling himself John?

sorry kinda got off topic there but my point is Geraldo sucks the high hard one

You're right, he's fearless. He's been the man ever since Willowbrook.

Love how he calls Charlie an empty windbag.

Robert Hendrickson said...

I remember Willowbrook, Marliese. It was so sad. I still can't watch the videos. Too heartbreaking.

Geraldo has led an interesting life. I'm sad that he took that chapter as a talk show host though. It was beneath him - but it made him very rich.

His wife once said, "He's a Jewish man from the neck up and he's a Puerto Rican man from the neck down".

LOL.

Marliese said...

ROFL...'Jewish from the neck up and Puerto Rican from the neck down' LOL!

Yeah, i couldn't agree more...the talk show thing was beneath him...and the now it can be told junk and the fights on stage and the Exposing Myself autobiography, like we really want to know he did Bette up against the sink in a bathroom at some party. Think i've heard him say he deeply regrets writing that book.

I thought his talk show segments on AIDS were incredible...he was back to his WABC investigative reporter persona with those...but you're so right...he did all the rest for the money and it made him filthy rich.

Marliese said...

That is a very funny line...which of his wives said it? LOL!

C.C. Dyer, who he was married to from 1987–2000. A very attractive redhead.

I want to point out that Charles wasn't set on fire by Mexicans or for any gang-related reason or political reason. He was set on fire by a crazy guy of Nordic descent who became a Hare Krishna. The guy is now in Vacaville for mental health problems.

LynyrdSkynyrdBand said...

You're correct AC.

The guy was (in fact) a Hare Krishna... and no... the name never sounded Mexican to me (either).

"On September 25, 1984, while imprisoned at the California Medical Facility at Vacaville, Manson was severely burned by a fellow inmate who poured paint thinner on him and set him alight.
The other prisoner, Jan Holmstrom, explained that Manson had objected to his Hare Krishna chants and had verbally threatened him.
Despite suffering second- and third-degree burns over 20 percent of his body, Manson recovered from his injuries".

Sounds like a Dutch name to me...

LynyrdSkynyrdBand said...

I've also seen the "burning incident" listed as 8/25 online... but, I believe this 9/25 report... to be the accurate date/account.

LynyrdSkynyrdBand said...

Thanks Matt!

I wasn't able to watch the program (myself)... but, maybe someone else will... and share with us, a brief account.

Hello Poirot, Marliese, Jiri, Matt, AC and Bing!

Katie is busy with some personal commitments today (monday) and tomorrow (tuesday) for sure... possibly wednesday, as well.
So... I'm playin' "host".
I'm not half as good (a host) as Katie... but, I figured saying "hello" to everyone was a start.

She has jury duty. LOL
I really feel bad for that defendant!
Ahahahahaha
The poor bastard is goin' to jail for sure! : )

...and you KNOW, she's gonna be the lone hold-out juror!!!
LOLOL

Ya gotta love her.

Peace... Lynyrd

I am watching the Nancy Grace rerun, My God, this woman is insufferable.....

She makes the National Enquirer look respectable. She calls the Wooly Hophead a serial killer, then a mass murderer, calling the Family members "disciples"; it is yellow journalism at it's worst. She had Alisa Statsman on for a moment, then a phone conversation with Bugliosi, calling him "one of the greatest trial attorney's in history". Thankfully, it did not show her going down on him but it was headed in that direction.

I have not watched Nancy Grace before, now I know why. Guess I better see if a rerun of Everybody Loves Raymond is on, it would be more intellectual....

Pity the fool, if they look like Casey Anthony or any of the Family... or Polanski. LOL (Just kidding. I'm sure Katie will take her duties very seriously... but this does have real comic potential).

I knew being a convicted felon could have it's advantages. No jury duty will be coming my way.. LOL. :)

Geraldo has definitely interviewed some very interesting folks.

However...
I've always had a hard time considering him a newsman... such as Walter Cronkite or Harry Reasoner.

He does have that "touch" of tabloid presentation, that I just can't shake.
No matter how you slice it... he's got a bit of "Jerry Springer" running through his veins.

I wish he had allowed Manson to speak for longer stretches in that interview.
It seems Geraldo (many times) interrupted Manson, just as Manson was finally getting around to the "meaty" stuff.

I've often wondered if some type of legal paperwork was enacted before that interview, for Manson's protection.
It does seem, that every time Manson was really about to "implicate" himself... the recording/conversation is spliced... or otherwise interrupted.
It's almost as though, they went back, and edited-out all the times, when things were really getting "good".

Watch the whole thing.
You'll see what I mean...

Dill, I saw the Nancy Grace show too, she introduced Alisa in a weird way, I wrote it down, but can't remember where I put it. You're right, I'd rather watch reruns of "Everybody Loves Raymond" too. Have you ever noticed that Ray never closes his mouth?

ok, here's what she said: "sister of Manson victim Patti Tate's sister." Uh, ok.
