This is from when she was wearing a cast from breaking her foot from falling out of bed.

Isn't this the same dress she wore in the "Happy Easter" photos? (the ones with the big bunny) Lynyrd will have to post one of those pix on the board for Easter.

katie8753 said...

Venus good eye.

I didn't know she broke her foot. Falling out of bed??? Do you know the details?

Venus said...

Maybe she was trying to get away from Roman? LOL

Hi Venus.

I'll be damned... You're right.
It IS the same dress (as the "Happy Easter" photos).

Wow...
You sure know your Sharon Tate!

I never thought these kinda women, ever wore the same outfit twice. LOL

You also know... that she has a cast on her ankle, under the table???

Jeez...
I've evidently spent way too much time studying Charlie! LOL

I'm getting a vison:
...Motioning with my hands like a movie director...

Is there anything Venus doesn't know about Sharon and/or Jay? Nope!

katie8753 said...

Hi Carol! You're right...Venus knows everything about Sharon. LOL.

Okay I finally got a hold of a copy of Martha Marcy May Marlene, and I've watched about half of it.

I'm going to bed now, but I'll watch the rest of it tomorrow, time permitting.

This movie is hard to get hold of, and is based on a girl escaping from the Manson Family cult.

I will write a review on it and have it up soon!!!

SMMOOOOOOOOCHHHHH to all!!!! :)

katie8753 said...

Check that...it's not about a girl escaping from the Manson Family cult, it's BASED on that.

Night night. LOL.

No I know where Lynyrd got the idea for the name of the blog...

Starship!!! LOLOL.

Okay, bringing up old trash, today at 1:30 pm EST, there will be a hearing in the defamation case of Zanny the Nanny VS baby-killing Casey Anthony.

I hope to be back in time to watch it.

Seeing this picture of Sharon in Paris reminded me of a question I've always had. I was old enough to remember the newspaper articles about Sharon at the time of the murders. They all said she spoke fluent Italian. I've read that in many books about her, too. Debra has said Sharon spoke Italian fairly fluently and picked it up faster than any of the Tates when they were living in Italy. The E! channel story on the murders said Italy was Sharon's "beloved country." Roman has said he always thinks of Sharon when he dials the area code for Rome. My question is - Has anyone ever heard Sharon speak Italian? Is it on video anywhere? If anyone knows, it would be Venus! If something like that exists, I'd love to hear it.

Carol, I've never heard Sharon speak Italian. In fact, I've only heard her speak English a few times, having never really seen her movies. :)

Sharon looks so little and tiny in this photo, and that face...that beautiful, beautiful face...

CarolMR said...

Marliese, I think Sharon was quite petite. I think she was 5'3", although some of her fan sites like to say she was 5'6". No way was Sharon 5'6" tall.

katie8753 said...

Hi Dis. Yes she was soooo very pretty!!! :)

katie8753 said...

BOBBY!!! MARY!!! Good to see both of you.

Mary I wish we could see more of you!!! I know you said you are traveling a lot now, but we miss your comments!!

>>>Marliese said: Sharon looks so little and tiny in this photo, and that face...that beautiful, beautiful face...>>>

Yes she was incredibly beautiful. Beautiful doesn't even begin to describe her. From what I've read time and time again, beautiful inside and out!!! Which makes her even more beautiful.

Well I know she was taller than Ro-man, who was about 5'4" tall. So I'm thinking she was 5'5" or 5'6" Carol.

Well I finished watching the movie Martha Marcy May Marlene, and I was going to do a thread on it, but I think I'll pass.

I was very disappointed in the movie. It didn't answer any of my questions of why.

The movie is VERY slow moving, and goes back and forth without explanation between Martha's NOW and THEN. I think that's intentional. The cult leader character talks about "being in the now", of course like Charlie.

It never explains why she joined a cult, and it doesn't really explain why she fled it to call her estranged sister, whom she hasn't spoken to in 2 years, and Martha won't take 2 seconds to even explain where she's been for 2 years to her sister. The audience is still scratching their heads.

For the most part, it's a lot of bickering between Martha, her sister and her sister's husband, the latter of which feels like Martha is an albatross that has been thrust upon him to support, for which reason he can't ascertain. And when he questions Martha about getting a job and making something of herself, she counters with "why should I? Can't I just exist?" That's REAL deep. LOL.

I get the feeling that the Martha character is akin to Linda Kasabian...she dug the "not working and hanging out", but balked at the "killing of pigs".

The movie does show "creepy crawls" and the last one shows a man being stabbed, evidently by a Patricia Krenwinkel type gal who will just do as she's told. I'm just assuming this is why Martha fled, although it doesn't make it clear.

The ending is very disappointing. I won't reveal it in case any of you want to watch the film.

I now know why it was hard to get hold of.

I would love for someone else to watch it and comment.

St. Circumstance??? :)

katie8753 said...

The director of the movie, I'm assuming, was trying to explore cult behavior and transform it to the screen, but he missed out, in my opinion, by not explaining it.

That was the whole point....was it not?

He did describe cult life, and he especially described life in the "Manson Family" cult, but it never really evolved into some kind of explanation of "why"? Which is my biggest question. And I thought that this was the whole point of the film.

He delved into escaping it, but never evolved from that as to why she joined it to how she was coping afterward, except for some maniacal rants about certain things she was flashbacking on, which made her sister and brother-in-law think she needed to be committed.

This film just missed the mark.

Two thumbs down. LOL.

Prometheus, the Greek God of fire, is now tantamount to a new alien movie.

Breathe in. HA HA.

I will add...

I did like it quite a bit...

I think why it worked for me, and none of the other "Manson style cult Movies" did not- is because it is very hard to for rational people who have never been through something like that- to understand how anyone else could fall under that type of " spell"...

so when the try to show how one person could have that type of hold over others- it always comes off as unbelievable and cheesy- thus- making the rest of the movie less credible as well...

but this movie simply asked you to understand that the main character was already under that spell. you did not have to spend any energy figuring out how she got the way she was- you just got to watch what it had turned her into... If you can take it that way- it really becomes a compelling movie in many ways... not over the top at all in my opinion and much more like the way these thing probably are in those enviorments than in any of the other movies about this subject I have ever seen. ( possible exception- Into the homeland with C. Thomas Howell)

I especially liked the job the lead character did. She really brought me into the moment in several instances.

The fact that most of time she couldn't figure out herself if she was recollecting or dreaming- gave it very quiet real feel to me....

I think the young Olsen girl did a good job for herself in her first lead role...

:)

Hey, Katie,

You must live further out in the sticks than I do. I have MMMM coming via netflix and it's playing on demand on my Time Warner Cable system.

katie8753 said...

Starship, I don't know if you watched it yet, but when you do, PLEASE let me know your thoughts on this film.

I found it very slow moving and at times hard to understand the meaning of a particular scene.

And maybe you can explain the ending to me. LOL.

Anonymous said...

The fact that she only has her sister to go to, and there is not mention of parents being an option later in the film- leads you to understand she must have had some issues growing up- and they leave the rest of that you the viewer to construct...

the behavior of a person who is recently released into upper class society from a life of very little pleasure and materialism would be very disorienting, and she obviously had crimes she was hiding and ashamed of as well...

all of this would cause her to be confused and withdrawn.

I think this was very well played out.. she was moving in slow steps to get used to things.. being very cautious.. trying to sort through all the emotions and guilt, and at the same time- acclimate back into a normal life.

This is the reason for the pace of the film- I believe...

not so much over the top overacting - or fire and brimstone preaching from the leader... people falling at this feet...

more of the emotions and feelings about dealing with what happened and the aftermath....

It was a very real movie to me...

katie8753 said...

Hi St Circumstance!! Thanks for your thoughts on this film.

It never seemed to explain things, like as you mentioned, she and her sister seemed to be parentless, but we don't know how or why.

For some reason, Martha's sister felt guilty for not "being there for her". I'm not sure why she felt guilty or why she wasn't there.

The cult leader (I think his name is Patrick) wasn't really in the film that much, but in the few scenes when he is, to me those are some of the best scenes. But I'm surprised that he isn't mentioned more prominently in the film.

I wish there had been more action in the film. I mean, watching this girl sleep for 3 or 4 minutes isn't very stimulating.

Anyway, St. what's your take on the ending of this film? I guess it's one of those endings that you just have to make up your own mind about what happened.

Anonymous said...

Yeah - it is open to a few interpretations...

But I wont talk about the end for those who wish to give this movie a try...

:)

katie8753 said...

Yeah I guess we shouldn't reveal what happens at the end in case someone else wants to watch it.

I do hope that at some point we can all discuss our thoughts on the ending.

starship said...

Yes, I haven't seen the movie yet, and probably won't until at least late this week. But I did read somewhere that some scenes are constructed so that you don't know right away whether you're seeing the present or a flashback...

starship said...

So my point is that if you're confused at times Katie, then the director wanted you to be.

katie8753 said...

Thanks Starship. That is soooo true. In a lot of scenes, the only way I had to gauge if it was in the present or the past was to see if Martha's sister was in the scene. That way I knew it was the present.

Starship I'd love your opinion on this film as well when you've watched it. Looking forward to that!!

katie8753 said...

Also, I don't know if it's just me or not, but I can't recall most of the characters' names in this film.

The only cult names I remember are Patrick and Katie. HA HA.

I too am anxious to hear what Starship has to say....
