Brokaw says Robert Mitchum knew what?

At 20 seconds in, what is it that Brokaw says? What did Robert Mitchum have down by the beach? What did he know about Manson?

This seems all new to me.  Anyone with insights please comment!

Thanks Starship.

According to Brokaw:
Robert Mitchum ran into Charlie and knew of him, because Charlie attended "be-ins" and "other things".

You got me, on that one.

This is the first time I've ever heard the names Robert Mitchum and Charles Manson mentioned in the same sentence.

Brokaw uses a word that is unintelligible, due to the poor audio quality.
He said Mitchum had "kaysos" down by the beach????

What the heck are kaysos?
"Queso" means cheese in Spanish... but even at that, it still doesn't make any sense.

Sorry Starship, I can't understand what he's saying. I looked for a better quality video but didn't see one.

To me, it sounded like he just said something about how Mitchum knew kids at the beach who knew Manson.

I think he's saying ..."later, I found out Robert Mitchum had some kids who lived down by the beach I kinda knew from my days there, and they knew about him...". referring to Manson.

He may be talking about Robert Mitchum's sons, they'd have been in their mid 20's then, and when people said who is this Charlie Manson guy, they had heard of him... not been with him, but recognized him from the beach.

Apparently, one of Robert Mitchum's sons, Jimmy and his wife Wende Wagner knew Sharon Tate and I think both were at her funeral. Wende Wagner appeared in the film "Rosemary's Baby". Robert Mitchum apparently had a colorful career I didn't know about.

"On September 1, 1948, after a string of successful films for RKO, Mitchum and actress Lila Leeds were arrested for possession of marijuana.[8] The arrest was the result of a sting operation designed to capture other Hollywood partiers, as well, but Mitchum and Leeds did not receive the tipoff. After serving a week at the county jail, (he described the experience to a reporter as being "like Palm Springs, but without the riff-raff") Mitchum spent 43 days (February 16 to March 30) at a Castaic, California, prison farm, with Life photographers right there taking photos of him mopping up in his prison uniform.

Mitchum was expelled from Blood Alley (1955), purportedly due to his conduct, especially his reportedly having thrown the film's transportation manager into San Francisco Bay. Because Mitchum was showing up late and behaving erratically, producer John Wayne, after failing to obtain Humphrey Bogart as a replacement, took over the role himself.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the Mitchum family and the Manson "family" came in contact, I don't know of any direct details of that, but I've never looked.

Thanks Venus, Marliese & Sunset! I don't know much of anything about Robert Mitchum, except that he did that creepy movie "Cape Fear". I watched that movie years ago and he scared the beejeesis out of me.

I have to say that Sunset probably hit the nail on the head when he describes this guy as a pretty much "undesirable" to society. Which would explain why he would even notice Charles Manson.

I would highly doubt that Robert Mitchum will be mentioned in this Reelz documentary:

but I am very intetested in the documentary to see if a certain "Group" that visited Spahn Ranch while The Charles Manson Family lived there
is talked about.
