Reporter who covered Charles Manson, O.J. Simpson trials to retire

LOS ANGELES >> Linda Deutsch, whose decades-long tenure as an Associated Press courts reporter made her a witness to some of the most sensational trials in U.S. history, is ending a career that saw her report Charles Manson’s murder conviction, O.J. Simpson’s acquittal and countless other verdicts involving the famous and the infamous.

Deutsch, who wraps up a 48-year career with the AP on Monday, was a young general assignment reporter in 1969 when she was thrust onto the court beat. A rag-tag band of young hippies, influenced by a petty criminal who had reinvented himself as their guru, broke into two upscale Los Angeles homes on successive nights and killed seven people, including actress Sharon Tate.

When Manson and his followers went on trial, Deutsch was sent to an LA courtroom to back up a veteran AP reporter. The trial became a huge story, with Manson’s followers carving Nazi swastikas into their foreheads and disrupting the courtroom with chanting and singing. At one point, Manson himself leaped over a defense table and tried to stab the judge with a pencil.

“I thought, ‘Oh, this is really something. I didn’t know trials are like this,’” Deutsch recalled recently.
By the time Manson and his followers were convicted, Deutsch was the AP’s trials expert. She would eventually earn the title “special correspondent” as she traveled the country reporting on the most prominent court cases of the day — everything from the 1976 trial of newspaper heiress and kidnap-victim-turned-bank-robber Patty Hearst to the negligence trial of the captain of the tanker Exxon Valdez, which caused one of the worst oil spills in U.S. history.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2014/12/20/north-korea-says-it-not-involved-in-sony-hack-proposes-joint-probe-with-us/

Here is the funniest thing so far this Christmas season. Our own FBI insists N Korea is the Sony hacker and that it has evidence to prove it. The N Koreans called the FBI's bluff and denied being the hacker and states it will jointly assist the FBI in finding who the hacker is. This means our own FBI is even less trustworthy than the scumbag N Koreans.
My guess is that the hackers are Americans. It sounds like a Hollywood power struggle between billionaires and the studios. The hackers are the very folks who own and run Hollywood.

Linda Deutsch appears in the A & E bit Biography - "The Manson Women" aka "The Manson Women: An American Nightmare".

Never knew who she was before.

She would be a good one to have a new interview with Manson. I bet she would come out of retirement for that opportunity.

Here is the same story on CNN. It's rare that real new makes its way into the front page of the American state sponsored media but today it happened.

In the words of agent 86 Maxwell Smart. "Don't tell me it's the old trick -the North Koreans did it".

I can't speak for the FBI, but the CIA...now there's a dangerous bunch.

Perhaps Robert Hendrickson would describe this current Sony-N Korea story as just another Gulf of Tonkin type lie.

Take a look at some similarities in two recent events: Benghazi and the Sony hack.

Both incidents have some form of an attack on America by an evil enemy who is supposedly angry over the production of a movie which is claimed directed at them to discredit them.
Benghazi had the youtube movie that angered Islamists and in the Sony hack N Korea is supposedly angered over a Kim Jong Il assassination comedy movie. We now know both the stories we were told by American government sources were phony.

Thanks for this Katie, I was asking about Linda Deutsch not too long ago. She has seen some interesting things in her career that's for sure. ( FYI...Have started watching the Roman interview, very good so far. )

I remember Linda Deutsch being interviewed by L.A. news channels...near every time the subject was the Manson Family,
Beginning with my interest in the case back in the 70's.
