"After Hours" brings in the crowds at Whittier Central Public Library

WHITTIER >> There’s a lot going on after the doors close on Thursday nights at the Whittier Central Public Library.

The After Hours programming presents top-selling authors and entertainers most Thursday nights free to the public.

The latest event featured former prosecutor and best-selling author Vincent Bugliosi talking about his book, “Reclaiming History: The Assassination of John F. Kennedy.”

“It was perfect timing to have him speak, since we’re coming up on the 50th anniversary of the president’s death,” said Paymaneh Maghsoud, director of library services.

“Mr. Bugliosi could not have been more gracious with his time,” she said. “Although he mostly spoke about Kennedy, he did touch upon the Manson Family.”

Bugliosi prosecuted Charles Manson and his followers for a series of murders in the summer of 1969 in Los Angeles, including the slaying actress Sharon Tate and her unborn child. He wrote a best-selling book on the murders.

The nearly 200-member audience was not the biggest the After Hours program has seen.

“There have been presentations that have produced crowds of 250 and more,” Maghsoud said.
“Libraries have evolved into a community hub,” she explained. “And we are fortunate to have two outstanding groups, the Whittier Public Library Foundation and the Friends of the Library, who allow us to provide quality programming to the community.”

Whittier College, along with the WPLF, co-sponsored the Bugliosi event.

The upcoming After Hours schedule includes a Pinterest Party at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 14; a “Hunger Games: Catching Fire” program at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21; and a holiday program, “Popular Christmas Songs by Jewish Composers,” at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 12.

He does look pretty rough.

Old age is a bitch.

LOL

I'm surprised he still bothers with public appearances.

Is he EVER going to be completely retired???

Just a year ago, some folks were predicting his death.
But... he's still at it....

Bugs and Manson are both too stubborn, to let the other one have the last word. LOL

I think Bugliosi and Manson are both 79 this year. Isn't that ironic?

LynyrdSkynyrdBand said...

Neither are looking too good, to be honest with ya. LOL!

Yeah they're both looking pretty "wore out".

But I have to say, if it's a beauty contest between Bug & Charlie, Bug wins hands down. HA HA.

Would have been great if the 92 year old 'Milkman' showed up to ask a couple questions...

Do you think this thing might show up on youtube or can anyone find a link to it? I would be very curious so see the audience make-up. Vincent seems to provoke allot of antipathy so it would be interesting to see if any anti-HS fanatics or anti-lone gunman zealots were on the attack during the Q&A part.

The best theatre would of course been if the Col was in the audience.
You'd think that given the HUGE role Manson played in his life and fame, that Vincent would have the human curiosity for maybe one more sit down with Charlie, just for history sake. It would be grand theatre. I've never understood people who had within their means to create "epic moments" and yet just never seemed the least bit interested in doing so.
Does Matt or Liz or anyone know if Vince even reads the Manson blogs?

wait, dammit, I forgot which blog I was on. I meant Lynyrd and Katie. my bad, sorry.

And Romantic!!

Leary, you crack me up. LOL.

I agree, Vince & Chuckie should sit down for one more go-around. Maybe Charlie can still make his watch stop. Oh wait, wasn't that due to ugliness? LOL.

I doubt that Vince reads Manson blogs, but I really have no idea.

I agree Leary. I'd love to see Monica and Bill in a Cspan sitdown.
