"The Hippie Temptation 1967", with Harry Reasoner.
Submitted by MattProkes... Part 1 of 4.
I finally got a chance to watch this, in it's entirety.
My take: I highly recommend this footage.  It includes interviews with the Grateful Dead, and clips from one of their impromptu public performances.  There's also REAL footage inside one of the Haight-Ashbury "Free Clinics"... and much more!!!  It's really worth watching.  If you want a rare glimpse into the 1967 "Haight" LSD scene... with a nostalgic feel attached, watch this documentary.
Thanks Matt!  That was even better than I expected.

Matt... I've seen that Larry King interview with Watkins... it's great footage!

It's the one where Larry is on vacation (or something), and a middle-aged blonde woman steps-in, and hosts the show.

Some woman named "Ginny" calls the show, and chats with Paul for a while... it's one of the less notable portions of the interview actually.
(just wanted you to know, I remember the footage)

Wasn't there a saying way back when that anyone who called themselves a hippy most certainly wasn't?

Like there are words and expressions you can use about other people but it's not cool to use about yourself ('cool' here in the 60's sense of the word - laid-back, stylish, detached, with-it and where it's at).

& vise versa, words you can say about yourself but not others: I'm a real dipshit or lamebrain or dumbass etc.

sorry, but it struck me as funny.

Harry Reasoner sounds like Jack Webb.

I love the way he starts it out with “These people are hippies.” Like he’s examining a new subspecies. Those hippies and their LSD. HA HA.

katie8753 said...

Boy the people at that hospital are really nice. “Hi Joan, let me take you to your room.” HA HA.

Lynyrd did you give Matt another mark on the big board???

katie8753 said...

Matt…Watkins says Manson knew Jim Jones?? That’s interesting….

Hi Mary! Where'd you go??? :)

Mary said, in an e-mail:

>>>>"Hey Lynyrd -

I am having an awful time with my account. I posted a comment today...and then I see it is deleted - I did not delete it and I don't think you would have deleted it...same thing happened last time I commented. I think I am just going to create a new account and start over, i guess. Google is no help what so ever. Sometimes I cannot even view the comments and other times I cannot access the blogs...then other times, things seem fine. I am not sure what is going on".

I have no idea Mary.

I've seen folks have trouble posting before... but, I've never seen a comment mysteriously "deleted".
That's just really weird.
I assure you, I didn't delete your comment.

LadyRam has been having an aweful time posting as well.

The only two suggestions I have:

1) You have to sign-in, using the same account (email) associated with your membership.
If you have seperate google accounts for your blogger and g-mail, as some folks do... you've got to use the one associated with your blog membership.

2) It's a good idea to clear your "cookies" once in a while.
Go to "tools" in the extreme upper left.
Click 'tools"... then "internet options"... then "clear browser history"... and follow the prompt for clearing cookies from there.

Other than that... I've got nothin'. : (

PS... any account can post here, following moderation... so, even if you're using a different account, you should still be able to post something, albeit "moderated".

I'm at a loss... especially with the "deleted" thing.

If nothing else... sign out using the tab, in the upper-most right hand corner of the main page (not the comment section page)... and sing-in fresh.

You've got me... ????

I enjoyed the Lennon video. Interesting. He mentions that he wasn't even paying attention to the lyrics. LOL.

Probly a slight to Paul because HS was his song not John's.

Matt...

I'll get the Watkins footage up, but currently it says "the video is being processed"... "please check back in a few minutes".

Oddly enough, part 2 is already working... but, part 1 is the stickler.

You know Bobby I saw a documentary about the making of Helter Skelter and I don't remember all of it, but the guys were at each other's throats a lot.

I think the last version they came up with was about 15 or 20 minutes long. They had to cut it down for the album. I don't think any of them liked the final cut.

"I've got blistahs on me fingahs". HA HA.

katie8753 said...

Matt, thanks for the Watkins footage. If I don't get a chance to see it tonight, I'll definitely see it tomorrow!!

mattprokes said...

playing fine on my end...give it a few minutes i guess.

mattprokes said...

the 27 minute version of helter skelter is the holy grail of beatles outtakes.
nobody i know of has ever heard it.
i think it was going to be on one of the anthology cds back in the mid 90s but was left off because of its length.

LynyrdSkynyrdBand said...

WOW...

I finally got a chance to watch this, in it's entirety.

Seriously folks... I highly recommend watching this "Harry Reasoner" footage.

Interviews and a performance by the Grateful Dead... REAL footage inside one of the Haight-Ashbury "Free Clinics"...

It's really worth watching.

Thanks Matt!
That was even better than I expected.

If you want to feel like you're back in '67... watch this documentary.

I bought the antholoy CD's and don't remember if it was on there or not. I was so disappointed in those CD's. It wasn't what I expected. :)

Lynyrd, I watched the first segment of these videos and it was good. I'm going to watch the rest when I get a chance.

katie8753 said...

Ooopsss, I meant to say "anthology". HA HA.

Thanks Beauders. It's interesting that she and Ronald's son Ron went into broadcasting.
